The male football team of the University of Technology, Jamaica was successful against a Jamaica celebrity team in a practice match last Friday at the UTech, Jamaica campus. The match ended with a score of 3-2.

With less than 20 minutes into the game, the celebrity team with the likes of Christopher Martin and Jermaine

Gonzales scored their first goal. Not long after, the UTech Knights scored twice before their opponents scored their second goal. A few minutes before the half time whistle, UTech’s Sakmar Scott scored another goal, putting the game at 3-2. The second half was more competitive with both teams being more defensive and making more attempts at goal, even though neither team scored.

Before game time, goal-scorer Sakmar Scott exuded confidence, adding that

“it feels good to be playing”.

Tafari Welch, a defensive midfielder for UTech, was also confident that his team would be victorious, predicting a 2-0 or 2-1 victory. He stated that the players should

“always be optimistic”

and pointed out that the ball is round. He observed that football is an ungrateful sport so anything can happen, but he was still confident in his teammates, especially based on the level of training they have been receiving from coach Garfield Jones.
