From fashion shows and live performances to giveaways and campus-wide camaraderie, President’s Knights Day 2026 brought students together for a full day of celebration at the University of Technology, Jamaica, despite a delayed, rain-soaked beginning.

The annual student-centered celebration took place on Thursday, February 5, at the Caribbean Sculpture Park on the main campus, which then continued the very next day at the Western campus. President’s Knights Day remains a major campus tradition at Utech, designed to foster school spirit, bring students together, and celebrate knight pride through entertainment, engagement, and shared experiences.

The celebrations officially began with a spirited march around the university. Students from various halls of residence, faculties, and colleges made their way across

the campus dressed in the colors of their respective groups. Led by cheerleaders and a lively marching band, the procession set an energetic tone for the event. Heavy rain accompanied the march, which at first slowed the momentum but quickly became part of the experience. Umbrellas went up as students continued forward, dancing and chanting through the downpour.

Following the March, Chaplain Carrol Richards gave an opening prayer before the day’s activities moved into full swing. University president, Dr. Kevin Brown, later addressed attendees, acknowledging the halls of residence, faculties, and colleges. In his remarks, he spoke about ongoing issues affecting students, including challenges with the University’s online systems. He also shared insight on future developments aimed at improving the overall student experience.

“High school was yesterday, Utech is now,” Dr. Brown said, encouraging students to fully embrace their time at the university while also taking ownership of their role within the campus community.

Intermittent rainfall throughout the day added to the celebration, with brief downpours sending students and attendees moving in and out of sheltered areas. Despite the weather, the energy of the event remained high.

One of the day’s most memorable moments was a fashion show featuring student models, wearing original pieces created by students enrolled in the University’s fashion program. Following the showcase, Mr. Miranda, head of the fashion course, ad

dressed the crowd, encouraging students to spread the word about the program to prospective applicants with an interest in fashion and design.

The celebration concluded on a high note with trivia games, prize giveaways, and a concert featuring a range of performances by the Centre for the Arts (CFA). Highlights included a choral performance of Quiet Giant by the University’s choir, along with an exciting performance by the Dance Ensemble.

While the rain presented an unsteady start, President‘s Knights Day 2026 ultimately delivered on its purpose: bringing the Utech community together in a shared space that reflected resilience, creativity, and Knight pride.
