From a field of eleven contestants, Trishani Weller of the Faculty of Engineering and Computing, copped the title of Miss UTech Jamaica 2021 last Saturday, April 10. Her runners-up were Tyler Rae Rerrie and Kimlouy Champagnie, who placed second and third, respectively.
This annual event – in its first ever staging virtually – was hosted by Maurice Colquhoun with the theme ‘Young and Gifted: Queens on the Rise.’ Weller was rightfully declared the winner after answering the question, “what is the most important issue your generation is facing?”
After each contestant showcased their talents and evening wear, the top five were announced as: Tyler Rae Rerrie, Kimlouy Champagnie, Trishani Weller, Gisselle Barrett and Alexia Davis. Weller was deemed the Best Performer and Most Aware for the sectional prizes. The award for Most Congeniality was given to Tyler Rae Rerrie and Kimlouy Champagnie received the awards, People’s Choice and Most Poised.
The glitzy affair began with the National Anthem which was followed by the UTech Marketing Seminar Dance Group. Each contestant creatively expressed their talents during the talent segment which was followed. After this, entertainment was provided by GeOo ft. Dehshh with their single ‘Hero,’ and violinist Catherine Smith, who gave an exciting rendition of old folklore songs which lightened the nerve-wrecking mood while the judges deliberated.
The judges were Chantalle Bryan, Miss St. Ann Festival Queen 2019; Tamara McPherson, Miss St. Elizabeth Festival Queen 2019 and Marketing Assistant at the University of Technology, Jamaica; Brandon Ferguson, Runway and Style Expert; and Kaydean Sterling, Miss UTech Jamaica 2019.
